feature film 35mm - 100min |
A film about solitude, the difficulties of communication and the search for love. 'Nós' places Francisco and Angela in an ambiance that oscillates between the realism of everyday routine and the dream-like power of their encounters. The film embodies the ambiguous and contradictory feelings of the two characters by prioritizing images over words, and silence over language. BOCALLINO AWARD Locarno Film Festival 2003, Switzerland

TRAVELOGUE experimental documentary super-8 - 12min |
Travelogue is a road movie, a visual notebook. Made in super-8, it crosses Portugal, Spain to arrive to Morocco. We find medieval markets in the mountains and a group of young people improvising hip-hop in Arabic in a barber shop in Fez just a few metres of the mosque. On the terraces hundreds of satellite dishes... natural landscapes mixed with electronic ones. What is alive, moves and is unaware of borders. |

documentary DV - 50min |
Trás-os-montes, a poor region in the north of Portugal. 2 trips, one on the summer, another on the winter time, searching for people and songs. Bruno, 8 years-old ‘sings with the tapes’. Deolinda ‘walks with the cows’ and show us the village cemetery that ‘has a lot to see’. Ti Ana, 90 years-old, sings songs by the fire with the neighbors who ask her to ‘sing another one’. Oral tradition songs, learned from her mother and grand-mother, sang in ‘mirandes’ a local dialect. The songs tell us tragic stories that might remind one of Shakespeare. |

experimental film DV - 25min |
To film the quotidian. To search for a character... in film there is the shot, the camera position, the frame that creates the space, the gesture, that forces actions. All this creates limitations. The biggest limit is for the man who is in front of the camera: searching for the character, vulnerable, trying to fit the frame, trying to make significant things. In this project I wanted to test those limits: what is to film and act alone in the frame? How to stage daily life? How to film the vulnerability of a man? I started to work all by myself with Joao Pereira, the actor. |

experimental fiction DV - 25min |
Is about lyric, ironic and absurd love. About the existencial emptiness. About the search of a meaning to things, about the fear of death... Maria speaks with dead people and has meetings with characters out of reality. Imagination can fly and in that process the absurd becomes surreal. The movie scenes are like paintings, with elliptic relationships, opposite to the traditional narrative of cause and effect. |
