CV - Kevin Walsh (1962-2008)

Dj and musician born in London, has been working on electronic dance music since the 90’s blending live instrumentation with computer generated soundscapes. Founder member, singer and guitarist of the band ‘Full Moon Scientist’ who recorded 2 albums for Leftfield’s progressive house Hard Hands Label – ‘The men in white coats’ and ‘Shrub-a-dub’ and a 3rd album ‘Do we look like comedians?’ for Botchit & Scarper. ‘Full Moon Scientist’ were formed by K. Walsh and S. Rowlands for a genuine brand of experimentalism within the confines of electronica. They also contributed to numerous compilation albums and remixes and worked in the live music festivals and club scene including The Ministry of Sound, Megadog and Sabresonic. As a Dj he has come from the original dub-reggae scene through acid house to the break-beat, drum and bass and ambient, manipulating live different sampledelica and sound sources such as film soundtracks using the mixing desk as a musical instrument. Kevin began his career as a singer and guitarist in 1984 with The boothill Foot-tappers whose 'Get your feet out of my shoes' single was released on Independent label GO! discs and entered the UK charts at number 64. They were then signed to major label Mercury Records. Recorded and toured extensively through out the late 80's.

MOON CRASH

is a 360 degree immersive experience using DJ sets and mutant slides, painted live with video projections. A chill out space to Time travel. An ambient journey to the moon and outer space. A place to dance with memories and emotions, travelling through lightscapes on waves of sound.

manual slide projector - it allows each slide to be manualy pressed changing the painted landscape throught contact
automatic slide projector - the slides are projected with pre-determined timings
microprojector - it’s a microscope with camera that can be connected with computer or video projector
overhead projector - with a big projection surface (compared with the size of a slide) allows new possibilities for live painting
video projector - it alows the usage of 'fresh' slides edited footage to mix with live visuals

soundscapes

The soundscapes are created during a live Dj set using records, Cds, soundtracks and voice recordings blended through filters and effects units to create the spine of the story. Featuring original material by the band Full Moon Scientist including the ‘Moon Ark’ ambient project plotting a journey across the lunar landscape and beyond.

projections

For multi-screen live projections we’ll use: slide projectors, microprojector, overhead projector, video projector, laptop/software, DVD players and live camera.

mutant paintings

All visuals are painted on acetate using slide mounts, vitrail glass paint and drops of water. The paints are solvent based and don’t mix with the water; the water creates a vacuum which permits the movement. Each time the slides are projected they form a unique landscape. The slides also react to the heat of the projector. These slides have a short life as the water tends to evaporate and the slides to dry. The slides are painted, projected, filmed and manipulated live mixed with pre-edited materials.

the story

Scientists are priming two spacecraft to slam into the moon's South Pole to see if the lunar double whammy reveals hidden water ice. The moon crash will take place in early 2009. The target craters Faustini and Shoemaker’s relative ages of 3 billion and 3.5 billion years old would mean, in effect, that we are examining a fossil record of the early solar system and what occurred on Earth at that time, almost as if we were visiting it in a time capsule.

These facts are the starting point for an atmospheric story about the mysterious events unleashed by the deep impact of the twin exlosions of the moon crash. The release of cosmic rays, energies and half forgotten memories carried on waves of space and time create the possibility for an emotional story between a scientist and an alien. They travel in time and meet in the space in between… We will be experimenting with non-linear plots and live cinema.
